Torture.. When it’s turn into a technique

When I first thought of writing this file, I noticed the growing number of torture cases that are getting more and more intention. Is it poverty that turns man into a monster who does not bat an eyelid when torturing a fellow human being? Is it favoritism, bribery or mere arrogance of power? I used to think that torture began to spread only this year and felt bewildered. I wondered if can find enough torture cases to compile a good file to satisfy the readers. But when I opened the file I found that the number of the tortured exceeded all of my expectations. I did not know that they are thousands and that the number of police officers who perform such a crime are far more than those honourable ones who respect this great patient people. I was worried to be accused of distorting the image of Egyptian police officers. But now it dose not matter any more; whether I speak out or not, it is too obvious to be exposed.

Torture in Egypt.. overview

Torture in Egypt is not an ordinary crime. Rather, in recent years it has reached a critical level, it changed from being "an ordinary crime" to widespread phenomena.
The Legal Aid Center reported between the year 1994 and 1995 about 100 case of torture .
Furthermore, the use of torture is not restricted to political opponents but rather is employed against ordinary civilians. Amnesty International in its 2003 report similarly confirmed that the use of torture has become entrenched in detention centers and is used against both political activists and criminal suspects arrested during the course of criminal investigations.
UN special rapporteur concluded that “torture is systematically practiced by the security forces in Egypt, in particular the state security intelligence, since in spite of denials of the government”. read more »

*قام بتعذيب اسرة بأكملها (الجدة والابناء والاحفاد) الى التعذيب الوحشى فى 25/1/2001 اثناء خدمته فى قسم شرطة حلوان ، وذلك لاجبار احدى السيدات على التنازل عن عقار تملكه مقابل مبلغ ضئيل لصالح طرف على علاقة بالضابط بهاء الطحاوى. read more »

هذا الكتيب يتضمن أسماء وجهات عمل (بعض) ممن انتهكوا كرامة وأبدان مواطنى البلاد ، الرصد جاء من واقع الشهادات الموثقة لدى مراكز حقوق الانسان المصرية والعالمية ، أو الشكاوى الواردة الينا والثابت ما فيها بالمستندات الرسمية .قد تختلف الاسماء عن الحقيقة ، لاستخدام كثير من رجال الشرطة اسماء غير حقيقية فى عملهم، كذلك قد تتغير جهة عملهم ضمن حركات النقل والترقية (مثلا بهاء الطحاوى انطلق من قسم شرطة حلوان ليترقى الى مأمور قسم السيدة زينب، اللواء نبيل العزبى ترقى من مدير أمن القاهرة الى محافظ اسيوط). read more »
